Getting better at handling the bad banding seen in some JWST observations by using GMIC: @gmic

It's a fairly awkward process because the results are radically different if you try to use it on an image that's too large. I end up cutting this into quarters and running the same filter on each quarter.

@spacegeck hmm that's quite amazing, I often use GMIC on my starless images to reduce noise, never thought you can smooth out banding problems. Care to share your command line params or GMIC settings and a filter?

@sergey I'm using the Photoshop plugin, so here is a screenshot. I just play with the settings until it does what I want it to in the preview. The important thing is V Cutoff is at maximum (essentially ignored) and H Cutoff is some very low number. If Value goes any higher it adds some significant artifacts.
