I'm seriously going to believe that if we REALLY want to boycott Big Techs, we should just leave phones and computers in the closet or, better, in stores 🤔

@danslerush I would disagree about computers, you could build it using parts knowing each component and then install open source OS, that way you won't touch big tech. There is very limited path in doing something like that with phones.

@archit3ct I built my PC with spare parts, I have a phone on LineageOS without GApps but with F-Droid ; in general, I limit my use of "GAFAMs".

BUT, have you ever taken a look at the sponsors of the different free projects ? ESPECIALLY the board of the Linux foundation ? Or who subsidizes Mozilla for example ? Actually, Microsoft make more money with Linux (on Azure) than with Windows.

Every time you think you'll escape them, you find them just a little bit more hidden 🤨

@danslerush yes just like Amazon with AWS, MS working hard on Azure offering and indeed probably makes lots of money off of Linux. So they probably trying to steer things to improve their bottom line in projects they sponsoring. However as long as project stays open source people can collectively say "NO" for example VSCodium is a clone of VSCode without analytics piece from MS. It's a lot of work to survive in this world but I am positive that it is possible.
